Jimmy Douris Golf Academy will soon be holding trials for the Junior Pro Academy. The academy is tailored to meet the needs of juniors wishing to compete and places will be offered to competent golfers with a strong desire to improve every aspect of their game.

Local Noosa junior Cooper Clarke wowed the field when he shot a 4-under par 68 off the stick in the Noosa Mens Saturday competition recently. At just 15 years old this is an amazing result and we are sure to see many more similar rounds in competitions to come. Cooper also came third in the recent Ian Baker Finch Classic and won the Von Nida award at Nudgee Golf Club. The is one player with a very promising future.

Jimmy Douris has recently qualified to become a U.S. Kids Golf Program Coach here on the Sunshine Coast. U.S. Kids Golf Certified Coaches are recognised as experts in developing young golfers and Jimmy looks forward to welcoming all juniors into the program over the coming months. In an innovative move, Noosa Golf Club has recently introduced marked junior playing tees to the course. Giving juniors the opportunity to really feel part of the club, and meaning the course is readily available for junior competitions and regular playing rounds, this offers Noosa juniors an advantage other players will be sure to envy.

Noosa Junior George Giblett has become the first ever junior to win back to back titles at the 2018 Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship. Contesting in tough conditions over four action packed days, George went into the final day tied for first and managed to pull off an awesome one shot victory. Apart from the overall win, the highlight of the tournament was an astounding 25 metre putt from off the green on the 13th on day two at Pelican Waters. Fellow Noosa junior players Taj Egea, Brendan O'Brien and Cooper Clarke all performed to a very high standard across the four days and represented the club and junior team with pride.

Noosa Golf Club Junior George Gibblett has really made his mark after winning the Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship late last year. As a result of his success George has been awarded a world ranking and now sits alongside the best up and coming players in the Top 4000 World Amateur Rankings. An impressive result and well deserved given the hours of training and dedication George puts into his game.

Noosa Golf Club players are achieving outstanding successes lately, with four Noosa juniors through to the semi finals of the Sunshine Coast Match Play Championships and three out of the four remaining Open players in the Sunshine Coast Match Play Championships are Noosa Juniors as well! Could be set for an all Noosa final!

Two Jimmy Douris Golf Academy students, George Gibblett and Cooper Clark have been selected to represent Noosa Golf Club in the 2018 A Grade Pennant Team. A huge achievement for two boys only 15 and 16 years old and a well deserved reward for all the hard work they put in to their training.

Two time New Zealand Open winner Terry Price recently celebrated a third placing at the Shepparton BMW Victorian Senior Open last week after cruising through the second round with five birdies and a bogey to card a 4 under par 68 for the round. Eventually finishing tied for third place with defending champion Peter Senior, it was an exciting and closely contested event with New Zealander Martin Pettigrew eventually coming out on top.

Jimmy Douris Golf student Jill Yeatman proudly took out the Noosa Springs Ladies Open on Saturday 13 January by a definitive 11 shot winning margin. Congratulations Jill on such a fantastic achievement.

Jimmy Douris once again welcomed PGA Tour Professional Terry Price to Noosa Golf Club to host a golf clinic over two days. Terry is internationally renowned for having the perfect golf swing and is the teaching professional at Sanctuary Cove Golf Club. He is currently a European Senior Tour player and recently made the cut at the European Senior British Open. He is also the winner of the 2012 Senior German Open.

Students were offered a Full Swing School and Short Game/Mental Game School as well as the option of one on one Trackman sessions with Terry. Jimmy Douris Golf Academy Junior George Gibblett is a relative newcomer to the game but that hasn't stopped him leaping up the rankings in recent years culminating in an unforgettable title at the 2017 Sunshine Coast Junior Masters event.

16 year old George Giblett has done something no other junior from Noosa Golf Club has been able to achieve, under the guidance of Head Coach Jimmy Douris – bring home The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Trophy.

In hot, windy and very testing conditions George edged his way into the lead, however the final day came down to a nail biting sudden death playoff. Winning by one shot George took a risk by deciding to leave his driver in his bag for the final day. The risk paid off and despite incredible nerves and two bogeys he came up with and incredible win. Proud coach Jimmy Douris noted the highlights of his performance across the three days, most notably on day three when George took the lead and landed an enormous putt for birdie on twelve as well as a four metre putt on nine for birdie.

George summed up the final day. “Given what was at stake, I felt that I could wear a bogey, but I couldn’t accommodate a double or worse. I wanted to make sure that I was on the fairway to give myself the best chance of winning.” He went on to say “I nearly blew it - when I bogied seventeen and eighteen, I thought I’d blown it. Ben and Bailey are great players and they don’t normally let you off the hook, so I got a little lucky. But at the end of the day, I think my decision to leave my driver in the bag was a smart move, a move that made all the difference, it certainly gave me a lot of confidence.” “I don’t think I have ever felt so nervous in competition, and from what I hear, Ben and Bailey felt the same way, this really is a great championship and we wanted to put in our best performances, even though that was tested big time on day one and two which is something all the contestants would agree with. It was tough, very, very tough!!!”

The win proves that with great coaching, hard work and dedication success can be achieved in a remarkably short period of time.
